WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH US - MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

We started Memorial Day weekend on Friday - both Tom and I took it off and went to Grandparents Day at BRES. After listening to K-4 sing several songs the grandparents got to visit the kids in their classrooms. Tom and I went to Kyle's room while the boys other grandmother visited with Kaleb. Kyle had memorized a poem that he expertly recited and then gave us a "tour" of his room. He even had a gift for us - every year we have received these gifts and I've always kept them. Kaleb also gave us a gift of bookmarks.
Saturday - Tom's first full Saturday off from work since January - that was a long haul. Sure...they rewarded him with tickets to the Red Sox a week ago but working every Saturday was sometimes difficult. Since this coming Wednesday Kayden turns 4 we had all 3 boys come for dinner and to spend the night. We did a "camp out" in the living room and after breakfast Kayden opened his presents. It's so much fun being grandparents and looking at life through the eyes of a 9, 6 and 4 year old!
Sunday we put in rock steps going up the hill in the backyard and several other projects outside. Remember - there's many upcoming events we're gearing up for in the next few weeks and months. A graduation, a class reunion, July Fourth, birthdays just to name a few. We love sitting outside on the deck and found these great chairs...even put 2 red ones up by the fire pit to sit in while toasting marshmallows.

Needless to say the weekend wasn't complete without a trip to watch the alewives swim upstream in Damariscotta Mills. That's been a tradition for Tom for lots of years and I'm glad to tag along. The Memorial Day buntings have come down but there's something special planned for next week for the red doors - stay tuned.

  1. Love the red chairs, Karen. Are they resin, or wood? A friend of mine has some turquoise resin adirondacks - - she got them last year at Walmart. I raced to Walmart right after I saw them to see if by chance they still carried them, but alas, they did not. Bummer.

  2. Hi Heather - the chairs are actually heavy duty plastic but they give the look of wood for sure. They were on sale for $17.99 each - we bought the 2 red ones for the fire pit and 4 (2 pale yellow and 2 pale blue) for the decks. Pretty comfy and you can't beat the price!

  3. Hi Karen...I actually found some resin adirondacks! I have looked EVERYWHERE since I left the first comment, with no luck. Then, in this tiny little town that I live in, a bunch turned up at the only store here! Pink, violet, turquoise, and lime green. I just have to make up my mind about what color to get!
